According to the Oxford English Dictionary, Canon, when used to describe a work of fiction, is “the body of works taking place in a particular fictional world that are widely considered to be official or authoritative; those created by the original author or developer of the world.”

The following media are widely considered Canon in the How to Train Your Dragon animation franchise:

  • Dragonvine
  • The Fire Tides (unreleased, but the story has been described in interviews, and is still considered canon)
  • How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World
  • How to Train Your Dragon: Homecoming
(The Nine Realms is considered canon, but contradicts much of the series, so it is omitted)
